What is the limited express ticketing and reservation service?

The “limited express ticketing and reservation service” is a service that enables you to reserve and purchase limited express tickets online, by using devices such as smartphones and computers.

* You cannot purchase or reserve basic fare tickets.

* All discount passes geared toward foreigners are excluded from discounts on limited express tickets.

Membership registration is not required

* You can use this service simply by entering your telephone number and email address.

Service hours are 4:50 a.m. to 12:20 a.m.

* Note that, if you are using the service when service hours end, your session will be terminated.

Steps between purchasing limited express tickets and boarding the train

STEP1. Purchasing limited express tickets

  • Enter or select the necessary items, and then purchase limited express tickets by using this service.
  • * You can purchase limited express tickets beginning at 9:00 a.m. one month prior to the travel date.
    For example, tickets for a train departing on January 1 can be purchased from 9:00 a.m. on December 1.
  • * Please purchase same-day tickets at least 5 minutes before the departure time.
  • * You can purchase same-day tickets for up to 3 outbound and 3 returning trains.
  • * You can purchase up to 8 seats in one transaction.
  • * You cannot add more passengers after a purchase. Please purchase any extra tickets separately.
  • * If you reduce the number of passengers after your purchase (request a refund for each passenger who cancels), you cannot choose which seats are refunded. If you are likely to change the number of passengers, we recommend that you split the seats you might request a refund for when making your purchase.

  • * Tickets cannot be purchased only for children.
  • * You can only pay by using one of the following credit cards.

Please avoid paying by debit card (VISA debit card, etc.) whereby money is instantly deducted from your bank account, or by prepaid card (V-Preca, etc.) whereby a fee is instantly deducted from your remaining balance. If you pay by using one of these methods, changes and refunds might not be possible.

  • * This service does not apply to SL TAIJU and DL TAIJU (please use the SL TAIJU and DL TAIJU ticketing and reservation service), JR through trains (SPACIA Nikko, SPACIA Kinugawa, Nikko, Kinugawa, etc.), or Skytree trains.
  • * If you are only taking a Revaty limited express train between Shimo-imaichi station and stations north of Shimo-imaichi (between Shimo-imaichi station and Tobu-nikko station, or between Shimo-imaichi station and Aizu-tajima station), you only need a basic fare ticket. However, if you travel with only a basic fare ticket, you cannot specify a seat. To specify a seat, you need a limited express ticket.
    In addition, if you travel on the same train beyond Shimo-imaichi station, you will need a limited express ticket for all travel routes. For example, if you travel between Asakusa and Aizu-tajima, you will need a basic fare ticket and a limited express ticket for all travel routes.

  • Before clicking or tapping the [Complete purchase] button, carefully check the displayed details about your purchase.
  • * There have been many reports of passengers inadvertently purchasing same-day tickets despite intending to travel on an express train one month later.
  • After completing your purchase, save your purchase details by saving the relevant screen or printing out the details.
  • * There have been many reports of incorrectly entered information resulting in the nonreceipt of emails confirming the completion of the purchase, as well as users being unable to log in to confirm their purchase details.
  • * Please bring a device such as a smartphone on the day of travel, because members of staff are not in a position to handle changes or refunds.
  • You will be sent an email confirming the completion of the purchase. Please save this email.
  • * If you do not receive this email, use the telephone number and email address that you entered at the time of purchase and check [See purchase details].

STEP2. Purchasing basic fare tickets

  • Passengers who do not have a basic fare ticket or an IC basic fare ticket (PASMO, etc.) are requested to purchase a basic fare ticket at a Tobu Line station or a branch of Tobu Top Tours.
  • * Passengers cannot transfer to the Yagan Railway or the Aizu Railway with an IC basic fare ticket (PASMO, etc.), because these railways are not covered by IC basic fare tickets (PASMO, etc.) If you plan to travel from the Tobu Line to the Yagan Railway or the Aizu Railway, please purchase a basic fare ticket.

STEP3. Boarding the train

  • Go through the ticket gate by using your basic fare ticket or IC basic fare ticket (PASMO, etc.).
  • Check your train name, car, and seat (or room number) by referring to the email or screen confirming the completion of the purchase, and then board the train.
  • * Make sure that all the passengers for whom you have purchased seats are together when heading to the limited express platforms at Asakusa station or Kita-senju station, or the platform boarding points at Kasukabe station, Tobu-dobutsu-koen station, or Kuki station.
  • If a member of staff asks to see your limited express ticket, show them one of the following.
  • 1. Email confirming the completion of the purchase
  • 2. Screen confirming the completion of the purchase (You can also confirm your purchase details by using the [See purchase details] menu.)
  • 3. Printout of either 1 or 2
  • * If you purchased your tickets on a computer, and cannot show an email or screen confirming the completion of purchase when boarding, please print out in advance an email or screen confirming the completion of purchase. Have the printout with you when you board the train.
  • * A member of staff might ask you to verify your identity, so please bring along the credit card that you used at the time of purchase.
  • * Click here for the locations of limited express platforms (at major stations).

<Changing travel routes, trains, dates and times, or seats>

  • You can make up to one change after purchase. (No handling charge)
  • There is a handling charge of 420 yen per room if you change from a room to a standard seat (including trains without rooms).
  • * If you want to make a change on the day of travel, please complete the change before the departure time of the train that you have purchased tickets for, and at least 5 minutes before the departure time of the train that you would like to board.
  • * Please bring a device such as a smartphone, because members of staff are not in a position to handle changes.

<Requesting refunds or changing (reducing) the number of passengers>

  • Regarding refunds after purchase, there is a handling charge of 100 yen per seat if you change (reduce) the number of passengers.
  • Regarding refunds for rooms, there is a separate handling charge of 420 yen per room.
  • * You cannot add more passengers after a purchase. Please purchase any extra tickets separately.
  • * If you reduce the number of passengers after your purchase (request a refund for each passenger who cancels), you cannot choose which seats are refunded. If you are likely to change the number of passengers, we recommend that you split the seats you might request a refund for when making your purchase.
  • * Please complete the change before the departure time of the train that you are planning to board.
  • * Please bring a device such as a smartphone, because members of staff are not in a position to handle refunds.

Steps between reserving limited express tickets and boarding the train

STEP1. Reserving limited express tickets

  • Enter or select the necessary items, and then reserve limited express tickets by using this service.
  • * You can reserve limited express tickets beginning at 9:00 a.m. one month prior to the travel date until the day before the travel date.
  • * You can reserve tickets for up to 12 trains. However, for same-day reservations, you can reserve up to 3 outbound and 3 returning trains.
  • * You can reserve up to 8 seats in one transaction.
  • * Tickets cannot be purchased only for children.
  • * You cannot reserve rooms.
  • * This service does not apply to SL TAIJU and DL TAIJU (please use the SL TAIJU and DL TAIJU ticketing and reservation service), JR through trains (SPACIA Nikko, SPACIA Kinugawa, Nikko, Kinugawa, etc.), or Skytree trains.
  • You need to pick up (purchase) limited express tickets before the purchasing deadline. If you proceed via the [purchase] option in this service, then you will not need to pick up the tickets.
  • * The purchasing deadline is within 7 days of the reservation date. However, for reservations made less than 7 days before the departure date, the purchasing deadline is 15 minutes before the departure time of the relevant train. (Your reservation is automatically canceled if the purchasing deadline has passed.)
  • * Reservations made between 12:00 a.m. and 12:20 a.m. are regarded as reservations made on the previous day.
    For example, if you complete a reservation between 12:00 a.m. and 12:20 a.m. on January 2, the reservation date is January 1.
  • You will be sent an email confirming the completion of your reservation. Please save this email.
  • * If you do not receive this email, use the telephone number and email address that you entered at the time of reservation and check [See reservation details].

STEP2. Purchasing limited express tickets and basic fare tickets

You can purchase limited express tickets and basic fare tickets at any Tobu Line station (at a ticket machine that can read QR codes), at any Tobu Line station (ticket counter), or at any branch of Tobu Top Tours.

  • 1. Purchasing at a Tobu Line station (at a ticket machine that can read QR codes)
  • 1) Display the ticket QR code on a device such as your smartphone.
  • 2) Touch the [QR reservation purchase] button for limited express tickets on the ticket machine that can read QR codes.
  • 3) Carry out the purchase in accordance with the instructions on the ticket machine screen.
  • * You can only pay by using cash or the remaining amount of an IC basic fare ticket.
  • * This excludes Oshiage station, Yorii station, and stations without machines that can read QR codes.
  • * Your reservation is automatically canceled if the purchasing deadline has passed.
  • 2. Purchasing at a Tobu Line station (ticket counter)
  • Excluding Oshiage station, Yorii station, and unmanned stations, please tell a member of staff at the ticket counter or ticket gate that you want to purchase limited express tickets.
    Show a screen or email confirming the completion of the reservation to a member of staff, or tell them your reservation number and travel date, and then make the purchase.
  • * A basic fare ticket is also necessary. Please purchase a basic fare ticket at the same time, or use an IC basic fare ticket (except if you plan to transfer to the Yagan Railway or Aizu Railway).
  • * It might take some time to complete the purchase for reasons such as crowding near the ticket counter. Please arrive at the counter with some time to spare.
  • * To purchase tickets at Kita-senju station, go to the ticket counter next to the number 11 automatic ticket machine, on the left-hand side of the central ticket gate. Please use the buzzer to call a member of staff.
  • * To purchase tickets at Ikebukuro station, go to the south exit ticket gate.
    For passengers who want to purchase tickets at a Tojo Line station other than Ikebukuro station, you will need to wait a while before receiving your limited express tickets. Please be aware of this in advance.
  • * You can purchase tickets at the Asakusa Station Tourist Information Center between 6:10 a.m. and 10:50 p.m.
  • * You can only pay by using cash.
  • 3. Purchasing at a branch of Tobu Top Tours

Please bring an email confirming the completion of your reservation or a screen showing your reservation history, and then go to a branch that handles limited express tickets.
Please make the purchase in accordance with the staff member’s guidance.

  • * A basic fare ticket is also necessary. Please purchase a basic fare ticket at the same time, or use an IC basic fare ticket (except if you plan to transfer to the Yagan Railway or Aizu Railway).
  • * Click here for branches that handle limited express tickets.
    Note that business days and business hours differ depending on the branch.
  • * It might take some time to complete the purchase for reasons such as crowding near the ticket counter. Please arrive at the ticket counter with some time to spare.

<Changing a reservation>

To change the details of a reservation, cancel the reservation, and then make a new reservation.

<Canceling a reservation>

You can only cancel limited express tickets that have not yet been purchased.

  • * Your reservation is automatically canceled if the purchasing deadline has passed.

STEP3. Boarding the train

  • Go through the ticket gate by using your basic fare ticket or IC basic fare ticket (PASMO, etc.).
  • When boarding the train, check the train name, car number, and seat on your limited express tickets.
